In Memory of William MAKINSON Lance Corporal 9781, 'B' Company, 11th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers who died on Sunday 16th July 1916

Age 40 (8th July 1876 -- 16th July 1916) Commemorated at THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France on Pier & Face 3C & 3D also at Irlam War Memorial and also at Irlam Church of England Parish Church of Saint John Son of Thomas MAKINSON and Ann MAKINSON (formerly BROMILOW) farmers of Horwich, Lancashire Husband of Mary MAKINSON (formerly BELL) of Irlam, Manchester.

11th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers was in 74th Brigade, 25th Division in 'X' Corps on 16th July 1916. On the night of 16th July, after William had made the supreme sacrifice, 25th Division handed over to the 48th Division.
