Age 29 (15th March 1915 -- 9th July 1944) Commemorated at HOTTOT-LES-BAGUES WAR CEMETERY, Calvados, France. Grave III.G.6 Son of James ARSTALL and Susanah ARSTALL (formerly TAYLOR, later PERRIN) of Cadishead, Lancashire husband of Doris Arstall of Flixton, Lancashire

2nd Battalion Essex Regiment Herbert made the supreme sacrifice during much heavy fighting through June and July 1944, as the British forces tried to press south from Bayeux and swing round to the south of Caen.
